I wasn’t expecting to take this particular photo when I embarked on a tour of the National Cathedral in Washington DC.
According to the tour guide, there’s only one opportunity each day to capture the sun hitting the stained-glass window just right so that it casts its colors on George Washington’s statue. We had just a few moments to take our photos and soak in the beauty before it was gone.
I wasn’t expecting to see it, but I won’t forget the stunning imagery.
This photo captures more than a special moment in time. It’s a reminder that just being present, taking in the scenes around you can create a memory to treasure the rest of your life.

The reminder is especially true during the holidays. Don’t get too caught up in the preparations or the logistics of pulling together the perfect holiday that you forget to experience the moments that create lasting memories and family stories.
Inspired Life Action:
Steal a few quiet minutes during the busy holiday season by setting a daily alarm on your phone. Pick a ring tone that’s different from the others you use and label it your “Be present reminder.” Even if you can only pause for a few seconds when the alarm sounds, use it as a reminder to take a deep breath, look around and be open to experiencing life’s little moments.
