Photo Friday – Step To It

“I can’t do it,” is a phrase I encourage my clients to abandon and yet that’s exactly what I said when my husband suggested I do a half marathon with him.

The idea seemed overwhelming and impossible. I actually laughed at the thought of it.

And then I thought about it more.

I tell my clients they can do anything they set their minds to. The key for them is finding ways to break down the seemingly insurmountable task into smaller steps.

The key for me was following my own advice.

Step To It | Uncluttered

I looked at what it would take to complete a half marathon and charted a series of smaller steps that would help me accomplish my seemingly insurmountable goal.

I started with short walks, built up my endurance, took longer walks and developed the muscle memory to complete 13.1 miles. I engaged the help of my friends and my husband to walk with me, encourage me, and cheer me on as I trained.

Approach your life as a marathon, not a sprint; speed is not necessarily what you need to focus on, it’s about making it to the end goal. Share on X

On race day, I didn’t care how fast I completed the race, I focused on the finish line. My training paid off. The small steps made a big difference. The encouragement of others along the course gave me the energy and drive to keep churning through the miles. I completed the half marathon and have gone on to finish 10 more.

It’s an emotional journey each and every time that starts with the same first steps, and a reminder that “I can’t do it,” shouldn’t be in my vocabulary.

Inspired Life Action:

Small steps help you reach your bigger goals. It’s true when training for a marathon and when organizing your photos. If the initial task seems too overwhelming, break it down into smaller steps. Write out those steps and chart your progress along the way.

It’s also helpful to find someone to cheer you on and support you along the way. Photo organizing can be an emotional journey. I’d be honored to come alongside you and work to preserve your memories and tell your life story. Send me an email linda@unclutterednw.com to set up a consultation.
