Sometimes we don’t understand something until we get to the other side.
It’s certainly true in my life. I’ve questioned the validity of the phrase, “you’ll never get more than you handle” more than once and wondered just how much more I had to handle.
Know the feeling? Then you also know there’s a moment of clarity when the challenge is in the rear view mirror. An appreciation for the lessons learned, the perspective gained and the relief of getting to the other side.
We all face challenges and deal with the struggle of obstacles that seem insurmountable. I’m living proof you can overcome them.
Several years ago, I was involved in a car accident that was life-altering. My busy life came to a screeching halt. I underwent seven major surgeries in five years and was told I would never be pain-free and function normally due to the damage in my spine. I’m not one to give up or give in so easily. I fought through the challenge, questioned whether I had the strength and celebrated a recovery that allows me to lead a happy and healthy life.
Here’s what I learned through the process.
Time is a valuable commodity, and no one knows how much of it they have. As a result, I recommitted to organizing my schedule, my time and my home in a way that gives me more time with my family and friends.
I can help you do the same.
I’ve been a professional organizer for more than 15 years, but I do more than organize.
I inspire change. My job as a professional organizer is to help you see what’s possible. It goes beyond sorting your possessions, cleaning out a closet, or reclaiming a room in your house. Changing the space you’re in leads to change in other areas of your life.
You might not be ready to work one-on-one with a professional organizer. I get it. I’m also going to make sure you can get started on your own with resources like my Month-by-Month Organizing Plan, Favorite Things List and other organizing tips and templates.
You can do this. You can reclaim your space and you can reclaim your life.
Choose to ignore the voice in your head that says you can’t.
For years, I let that voice nag me. It had me convinced my partial college education made it impossible to write a blog or start a company. I listened to the whispers that told me I had no business telling my story.
And then I decided to stop listening.
I found the courage to step outside my comfort zone, which oddly enough didn’t happen while I was lying in a hospital bed recovering from one of the multiple surgeries needed after the car accident. It happened when I decided I had been refined by the fire and sharpened to inspire others to be great, to try new things and to look at life differently.
I know change can be difficult. I also know it can start with something small, like organizing a kitchen drawer and reclaiming a small space or with a smile and a pleasant inquiry like, “How are you today?”
Take initiative to take control over your outlook and your impact. Start with everyday activities. You’ve got too much to offer to be stuck in place. Make the leap and see yourself differently.
